Testing together, trying out, doing things differently in Offenbach
Move your neighborhood
Public space is the central arena for the mobility and transport revolution. This is where visions for the future must be negotiated - in dialog and experimentation together with local people. In the "Move Your Neighborhood" project, we wanted - together with the Center for Environmental Management, Resources and Energy (CURE) - to rethink mobility, open up spaces of possibility and establish new practices. To this end, we are testing and evaluating innovative methods in two mixed-use existing neighborhoods in major German cities (Essen and Offenbach) that contribute to increasing the quality of life and quality of stay in urban neighborhoods while providing effective building blocks for reducing emissions. In a co-creative process, residents worked together with experts from science, business and civil society, as well as representatives from politics and administration, to design a transformation corridor for the local mobility revolution. Testing together, trying out, doing things differently: This was the motto of "1 Month Future" in September in Offenbach's Nordend district. In dialog with neighbors and stakeholders from the Nordend and the port, 30 project ideas were developed, four of which were temporarily tested in September. "Move Your Neighborhood" won 1st prize in the Communicative Urban Design category of the Polis Award 2022.
