Saskia Niklas



Saskia Niklas completed her bachelor's degree in architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, followed by a master's degree at the University of Stuttgart, where she focused on urban planning. In her master's thesis on the topic of “City center - retail - vacancy”, she dealt with strategies and examples for the reorientation of city centers and the conversion of retail space in small and medium-sized towns.

After graduating, Saskia Niklas gained extensive experience in projects in Germany and Switzerland. She was involved in a variety of projects ranging from urban planning concepts and strategic urban development to regional spatial concepts as a project manager and later as a team leader. In recent years, her focus has been particularly on the adaptation of cities to the consequences of climate change and heat- and water-sensitive urban development, where she has been involved in the creation of several climate adaptation concepts, e.g. for the cities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Memmingen.

Saskia Niklas has also worked in academic teaching. She was an honorary lecturer at the Urban Design Institute of the University of Stuttgart and an academic assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where she led design studios and seminars.

At urbanista, Saskia Niklas contributes her expertise in the areas of climate adaptation, spatial concepts and the sustainable transformation of existing buildings.
