Julian Petrin has been working as an urbanist and urban researcher in the field of large-scale future and strategy processes for over 20 years. In 1998, he founded the office urbanista and advises municipalities, companies and associations throughout Germany in urban development processes and develops strategies with them to meet technological, social and ecological challenges. The focus is on city-wide and regional strategies as well as co-creatively developed visions of the future. In 2009, Petrin founded the internationally acclaimed participation lab Nexthamburg. From 2013 to 2015, he was a visiting professor for urban management at the University of Kassel. Since 2011, he has been a member of the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning (DASL). In 2012, Petrin was appointed to the Convention of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture. Among other things, he was a member of the Expert Council of the Future City Initiative, the Federal Government's interministerial working group "Smart City Charter" and has been a member of the Advisory Board of the International Building Exhibition Thuringia since 2016. From 2020 to 2022, he was appointed interim professor for Smart City Solutions at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences; he is also co-founder of the Urban Change Academy, which was launched in 2020.
